USR Wrap Up

Post  ISC Admin on Sun Nov 13, 2011 9:28 pm

Just got home from the USR. I am tired, beaten and a little bit dirty but I had a great time. The turn out was better then we all expected and the weather was maybe the best ever.

I will compile all the runs and get them posted asap. Only two records fell large scale (116 mph) and Open wheel (103 mph) and a few new members were added to the 100 mph club (Brian, Tom, Nick and Tony) Congratulation guys!

Some current record holders seemed to struggle today but it didn't effect guys like Richard Tompkins who might have laid down the most impressive set of runs ever witnessed at an ISC event, out of his 9 runs I believe all but one (spur gear death) were between 111 mph and 117 mph an unbelievable feat out of a 2wd 2 cell full bodied car. Tom Kendall in his 2 cell car worked and worked all day trying to sort out its ill tempered need to go everywhere but straight and then in the his final try with the daylight fading dropped a run of 102 mph to earn his spot in the 100 mph club. Brain B gets the iron man award recording 14 runs in his IC big block dragster with a best of 101 mph. The hard charger award goes to two guys making their first appearance at a ISC race, Tony L in his very first run took the open wheel record with a run of 103 mph and not to be out done his partner Nick Steel destroyed the large scale record on his first pass with a run of 114 mph but that wasn't enough he made one more pass and bumped his own record to 116 mph. (the records page has been updated with these new speeds)

Thank you to everyone that came out to support the ISC in our yearly event only 364 days until we get to do it again.

How about yourself Tim? I heard 145mph before you broke your car. What of Nic?

Cheers

Good Times!

Glad to see some new faces and some new Club members.
Most of all -
- Glad it even happened. With the threat of rain and lack of apparent interest --
- the one-day thing worked out, just fine.

I helped out as much as I could -
but my own entry never even made a pass. The radio gremlin got me this year.

If you add up all runs that Richard made -
I think it would be somewhere around 990mph - LOL
And thanks to Richard for the low cost drivers stand. Very Happy
N

Thanks to all the entrants who came out and made the day one to remember. Beautiful weather, great people and lots of fast cars.

Personally I too would have liked to have a second day cuz I could have repaired my car and come back with a new plan. Even if we had scheduled two days the weather on Saturday would have cancelled racing so it was kind of a non issue.

Great video Nic! Always enjoy your editing work....Thanks for getting my one run of the day...I know what I need to do for the next meet....

Every meet has its star...2008 was Nic with his still standing 161 mph...2009 had several with more 100 mph runs...2010 was Marc Davidson's crush of the nitro records...2011 had to be Richard Tompkins and his unbelievably reliable 2s 2wd car, his smilin' face all day, never down. Even though he was just a whisker short of the record he never gave up and just kept running. Adding to what Nic said, if you add up the distance he ran at about 3/8 mile per run, he ran almost three miles at over 110 miles per hour! He also built the driver's stand and has some improvements to it planned for next year!

If there's anything I would ask of next years competitors...please get signed up early so we don't have the feeling of impending doom before the meet. Its really hard to sign a contract with the track when only a few have commited. We'll start the sign ups earlier so there's plenty of time to get it done and we can make sure we have two days to run! Many thanks to those who did sign up pre-race....

Can't wait til next year.....
