Project 100 mph VTA

Post  Tim Smith on Sun Jan 22, 2012 7:09 pm

I have been looking around to find a used TC4 to build as a speed run car to race out at the “Carson street track” I have been going to over the last few months. The surface is too rough for my rail dragsters so I thought the TC4 with all its shocks and 4wd would be a great platform to use and I have never owned a 4wd car so off I went to track one down.

My idea was to use the TC4 platform and run a pre 1970 style body maybe ever pre 1960 lucky for me this car even came with a 1968 Camaro body~!

So begins Project VTA, my hope is to get 100 mph out of the car using the stock body (no wings, spoilers of side dams) and as little power as possible. I cleaned the car up and added a Noavk 3.5t Ballistic motor, Novak Kinetic speed control and MaxAmps 4200 mah 2 cell lipo pack as my starting point.

Got a chance to take the Project VTA car out for some runs. Things didn't go great but they did go exactly as I expected.

Enjoy

I would like to get this body to work but...... its more fun going fast then looking cool!

Oh and not clocking my car was not your fault, it's pretty hard to get a speed on a flipping lexan bird.

So I got bored and changed the body to something more suitable for higher speeds (I think...)
I will give it a run this Sunday at Gladwick and see what is next to fix.

How will rear side dams keep the nose on the ground? I believe Nic has run this body well into the 140's pretty much as is....

Went out to a old dusty parking lot near my house and ran the TC's (Titto and I) yesterday, it's not very long but it works if you keep your car around 100 mph. The weather was not great, it was cold and windy of course we still had a great time.

The car worked great with the new body and was a pleasure to drive. This 4wd thing is like cheating they run so well and are soo much easier to get up to speed then my stupid 2wd direct drive cars... I may never go back~!

both cars were running the same set ups.
Car: TC4
Motor: Novak Ballistic 3.5
ESC: Novak Kinetic
Batt: MaxAmps 6500 mah 2 cell (7.4v)

Here is just one of several runs we recorded.
